Work in Shetland

Skills Required
Shetland’s community and economy needs a wide range of skills, so wide
indeed that we couldn’t hope to list all of them here. However, the major
sectors include food (including agriculture and fisheries), administration,
education, health, construction, professional services, tourism, retailing,
the oil sector, transport and various branches of the creative industries. The
craft sector, including textiles and particularly knitwear, is small but nonetheless
vital. Opportunities arise from time to time in journalism, broadcasting, architecture,
town planning, sports and recreation or arts management, to give just a few
examples.
